The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. LUNAR SPELLS play a 90's influenced style of melodic black metal. I always appreciate this wild melodic approach which is still rooted in the underground and not overproduced. The demonic vocals are harsh, distorted and echoing, the guitars cut the soul with sharp riffs, the drums rumble like an orc horde most of the time and the synthetic organs add some atmosphere. Sometimes mid-tempo passages bring a bit variation in the fast paced performance. Somehow simple, but effective and classic!
